The Friendly Wedding Directory is Closing
It is with regret that will be shortly closing down the Friendly Wedding Directory.
The directory has been up and running since 2006 and at its peak was attracting approaching 10,000 unique visitors each month, which, for a standalone, uk-wide, wedding directory was good traffic.
However, last year Google mixed up the domain with the .com version (which was for non-uk wedding sites) and that tanked its position in search results.
It now fails to make even 500 (yes, five hundred) unique visitors each month.
Despite our repeated attempts to rectify the problem it has become apparent that we can’t justify continued resources to reclaim the search result positions the site once had.
At The Chaos Company we always strive to ensure that you get good value for your advertising spend and we don’t feel that the Friendly Wedding Directory offers anywhere near the value we would expect so our only option remaining is to close the site down.
What happens next?
- If you have a free listing it will simply disappear when the site is taken down.
- If you have had a paid listing that was active for any period in the past 12 months we will refund the Chaos Credits to your account.
- As a gesture, we will double whatever amounts we refund from above so that you can advertise elsewhere within WeddingChaos.co.uk
- If you have a current live paid listing it will be removed and all Chaos Credits allocated to the future will be returned to your account.
- We will be emailing you shortly to let you know how many credits we have added to your account.
What about links to the Friendly Wedding Directory?
If you currently link to the Friendly Wedding Directory you may remove the link at your convenience. If you don’t so already feel free to change the link to any page on weddingchaos.co.uk that you may feel is of benefit to your own site visitors.

This is such a sad story, it really annoys me that Google can cause such major problems like this for sites that at one point in their life were doing so well. I hope that weddingchaos.co.uk is getting all the success it deserves.
I agree with previous comment that such a seemingly small error can have such major consequences and result in the loss of a well established website. Perhaps one day the FRIENDLY WEDDING DIRECTORY will rise again.
Sorry to hear that you had to close the directory. I can only echo the words from some of those above regarding G’s powers. You’re doing a great job with the other websites in the Chaos network and so I’m sure they will continue to thrive!
I am sorry to hear this. A cautionary tale which unfortunately shows how the mighty Google can make or break your site with one small error. best wishes for your other projects. The Presentwise team
Thanks for your comments – we will never know the exact reason why we were tanked, but, onwards and upwards!
The site was appalling as is weddingchaos
