A while back we asked the question : Does Twitter Work for Your Business?

We decided to ask the same question about Facebook and we found a stark difference with our results showing that Facebook is used significantly more than Twitter when searching for and engaging with Wedding suppliers.

The question we asked :

Have you used Facebook to find/talk to wedding suppliers?

- Yes (26.4%)
- No (69.6%)
- What is Facebook? (4.0%)

I think that with 1:4 people using Facebook this demonstrates why you really should have a Facebook presence .

Does Twitter Work for Your Business?

Here at Wedding Chaos we were curious to how many of our visitors, mostly B2Bs, had used Twitter to find services and suppliers in the wedding sector.

This is what Twitter tell us ;

Twitter is a simple tool that helps connect businesses more meaningfully with the right audience at the right time.

Businesses and organizations of all shapes and sizes are now able to stay connected to their customers. It can be used to quickly share information with people interested in your company, gather real-time market intelligence and feedback, and build relationships with customers, partners and other people who care about your business. Customers can use Twitter to tell a company (or anyone else) that they’ve had a great—or disappointing—experience with your business, offer product ideas, and learn about great offers they’ve selected to be notified of.

We asked the question “Have you used Twitter to find/talk to wedding suppliers?”

From approaching 400 replies the vast majority, almost 78% simply replied ‘No’.  Add those to the 15% that have never heard of Twitter and what is left is a small 7% of people that told us they had used Twitter to source suppliers.

Supplier Directory – Search Upgrade

We have just released a new version of the global search on WeddingChaos.co.uk

This latest upgrade now includes the Supplier Directory as one of the available search locations.

Why did we do this?

Primarily because we wanted to make sure that those of you who have an upgraded advert within the Supplier Directory are getting as much expose as possible.

Banner Adverts – To Animate or Not?

If you are familiar with our advertising system you will have noticed that the two options we currently have for your adverts are either  a ‘Static Banner’ or a ‘Text’ advert.

We have been asked a few times why we don’t allow animated / flash banners on our site.

During the early planning of the advertising system we decided that having up to three animated banners, top, middle and bottom, no matter how well designed, would be too annoying and distracting for our visitors.

That left us with a decision to make ;  whether to allow animated banners in the top advert slot only, or not at all.

The argument for not allowing them at all is best explained with an example :

I am sure you can appreciate that an animated banner like this would be a dreadful thing to allow onto our site.

It would drive our visitors away in droves.

A good banner example would be something like :

This is far more visual appealing and far more likely to entice a visitor through the advertising site.

Chaos Advertising : Cost-per-Click (CPC) Stats Now Available

At The Chaos Company we really want you to get the most out of your advertising – if you are not happy, neither are we.

For any advert that you have on the WeddingChaos.co.uk website we will tell you exactly how much each visitor cost you over the last 30 days. So, you will see something like this ;

Over the last 30 days that this advert was active it directed 52 potential customers to your website – each one costing you just 5 pence

Why are we doing this?

We want to ensure that you are getting great value for you advertising spend with The Chaos Company.

Why using the ‘cost-per-click’ (CPC) metric?

You have to decide how you want to measure value.

  • Is it the brand awareness – how many times your advert is viewed?
  • Is it number of potential customers – how many clicks you get?
  • Is it how much each visitor cost?
  • Is it how many paying customers you get?
  • Or is it how much profit (ROI) you get from that advertising spend?

The Friendly Wedding Directory is Closing

It is with regret that will be shortly closing down the Friendly Wedding Directory.

The directory has been up and running since 2006 and at its peak was attracting approaching 10,000 unique visitors each month, which, for a standalone, uk-wide, wedding directory was good traffic.

However, last year Google mixed up the domain with the .com version (which was for non-uk wedding sites) and that tanked its position in search results.

It now fails to make even 500 (yes, five hundred) unique visitors each month.

Despite our repeated attempts to rectify the problem it has become apparent that we can’t justify continued resources to reclaim the search result positions the site once had.

At The Chaos Company we always strive to ensure that you get good value for your advertising spend and we don’t feel that the Friendly Wedding Directory offers anywhere near the value we would expect so our only option remaining is to close the site down.

What happens next?

  • If you have a free listing it will simply disappear when the site is taken down.
  • If you have had a paid listing that was active for any period in the past 12 months we will refund the Chaos Credits to your account.
